“Altcoin” stands for “alternative coin”. It means the thousands of cryptocurrencies that came about after Bitcoin. Many of them are controlled by founders, companies or foundations, have no fixed cap or have disappeared again after a few years. Anyone thinking about a purchase should ask: who controls the project, is the supply limited, which real problem does it solve and how long has it existed?
